Photographing a Show

Photographing a Show

Hirosh takes a lead for the choir

Part of the fun for the show was setting up the framing for each photo, and having some standard settings on the camera that would be useful for most circumstances. In this shot, I set up Hirosh in portrait mode roughly along the right thirds vertical line; he is sharply in focus with the rest of the choir much softer and slightly out of focus in the background to give the shot context: Hirosh taking a lead.

Action shots are a lot more difficult: ISO needs to be as high as possible without getting too noisy so that I can maximize shutter speed and still get a good exposure. Framing becomes tricky because I have to take the white balance on the fly from an appropriate part of the frame, or the exposure will be too light or too dark.
